New year, new you! 2019 is going to be your year but first, you have to be willing to make some changes. As the great Albert Einstein said, “The definition of insanity is doing the same thing over and over again, but expecting different results”. So, let’s make sure you have the best year yet by changing things up with these 6 healthy habits.
The number one rule to achieving change is to take care of your mind, body and spirit. Meditation is the perfect practice that does all of that in one, while also allowing you to channel the energy you wish to receive to accomplish your goals for the new year. So, grab a meditation pillow and download one of the many incredible free meditation apps, and commit to meditating once a day for at least 5 minutes.
As the saying goes, “You are what you eat”. To embrace a new start and a wonderful, positive new year, it’s important to fuel your body with healthy foods. Make it your goal this year to reduce the amount of sugar you eat to avoid preservatives, fast foods and other unnatural foods as much as possible. The better you eat, the better you feel.
Now, this doesn’t mean that you can’t eat chocolate or some of your other favorite treats; it just means you have to enjoy certain things in moderation if they aren’t natural. Fortunately, dark chocolate is fair game.
Gratitude has the ability to completely rewire your brain to find the positive in every situation. Get in the habit of listing the things you’re grateful for each night. It can be as simple as being grateful for the sun or finding the good in everything, such as being grateful for the dirty dishes because you’re grateful for having food to eat. Perspective!
You don’t have to spend hours at the gym each week but a quick walk around the block each day can work wonders for your health – emotional, physical and mental. If you can get to the gym, all the better but at the very least, focus on increasing your daily activity even if it’s in small amounts.
Sleep is imperative to the way your mind and body functions throughout the day. So, the key to improving your year (and life) is to improve your sleep. Create a bedtime regime that you can commit to on a regular basis and stick with it. Go to bed and wake up at the same time (yes, even on weekends), spray your pillow with lavender essential oils, invest in comfy sheets or a weighted blanket, and unplug an hour before bed. These little habits can make a drastic improvement to your overall wellbeing.
It doesn’t have to be Sunday to practice self-care. As long as you treat yourself to some “me time” each week (more than once, if possible), you’ll be indulging in this trend that is actually a powerful way to improve your life.
But remember, self care isn’t just getting your nails done and heading to the spa. It’s about treating yourself well and taking care of your mental health. The good news is that this also means that self care can be anything – reading a book, taking a bath, watching a good movie, staying in for the night, you name it.
With these 6 healthy habits for the new year, you’re off to a wonderful start! Keep it up and continue on your journey to Awakened Self. If you enjoyed reading this post, please leave a comment below and don't forget to subscribe to our newsletter!
