In a world that is consumed with news stories about bullying, wars, and hate, there’s no better time to learn how to add more happiness into your day. Below, you’ll find a list of five activities to practice every single day to promote optimal happiness and gratitude that appeals to your greater good.

Have you ever heard the saying, misery loves company? Well, it’s true. If you were to look at different people from across the globe, you’d notice that positive people surround themselves with positive people and negative people tend to stick with toxic relationships and situations.
So, the first step to adding more happiness into your life is to surround yourself with likeminded people who are on the same spiritual journey as you are. Invest your energies in those that will help you grow into the person you want to be, instead of those who will judge you, criticize you, degrade you, and simply make you feel like crap.
Rarely do we live in the current moment. We’re constantly thinking about what happened yesterday and the stress that will come with tomorrow, and never really truly being in the now. So, dedicate at least 10 minutes a day where you can just sit and embrace this moment, right here, right now and nothing else.
Meditation is a powerful way to be still and to quiet the mind and we highly recommend it. Though, if you aren’t the meditating-type (you should be!), simply find a quiet corner in your home to just sit and be still in the moment. Mindfulness is the practice of being aware of your surroundings, and by adding this into your life, you’re able to find the smaller things. For example, the other day I was rushing out of my house early in the morning, but because I practice mindfulness regularly, I noticed a snail hanging off of a bright yellow tulip pedal. It put a smile on my face and I was immediately reminded to slow down. So, start practicing mindfulness to cultivate similar experiences.
The best part? You can do mindfulness anytime, anywhere. You can go for mindful walks and focus on the sounds you hear in the distance, the feeling of the ground beneath your shoes, the sensation of the fresh air on your skin, or you can eat mindfully by focusing on every scent, sensation, texture and movement; you can shower mindfully; get dressed mindfully, drive mindfully – you name it!
Before you close your eyes for the night, repeat 10 things you are grateful for each day. Perhaps you’re grateful for waking up; for having legs to get you to where you need to go; for having access to public transportation or a car; for having a job; a home; family, etc. Your list can consist of big and small things, or a combination of the two.
By repeating this gratitude activity every night, you’ll infuse the positivity and optimism into your subconscious where it’ll manifest overnight. In time, you’ll find yourself always finding the bright side to all situations which allows you to find happiness even on the darkest of days.
